Anthony was born on the 9^th of January 1987 in Cork hospital. His family are from Dungarvan in Waterford.

He was born into an equestrian family. His father Michael show jumped nationally and internationally in ponies and young rider classes in the early 80’s, whilst his mother Catherine hunted and competed in some show jumping competition.

Anthony is the eldest and only boy of five children. His sisters Claire, twins Karen and Michelle and Sarah make up the Condon clan. The younger twins Karen and Michelle are both horse mad, following closely in Anthony’s footsteps.

Anthony’s family are steeped in equestrian history. His uncle Michael Buckley, produced Carling King who was so successful with Kevin Babbington on the International circuit, including aTeam Gold Medal at the European Championships in Germany in 2003  and also competed in the Athens Olympics.

Anthony first came to prominence when winning the individual Bronze Medal at the Pony European Championships at Lanaken Belgium with Another Riot.

In 2002, he followed his Individual medal up with a Team Bronze Medal at the Pony European Championships at Necarne Castle in Ireland with his pony Mr Poler Bear. Lackenshaft, a pony that has gone on to win numerous Championships in England was also second in the National Championships in Dublin with Anthony. Knights Queen won the Grand Prix at Ard Chuin to round of a very successful year.

Anthony’s best pony in 2003 was Some Man for One Man, who won the National Championships in Dublin and went on to win the internationally recognised Millstreet Derby.

Anthony lost his two front teeth in a bad hunting accident in 2000, when whilst out hunting a pony fell back into a ditch and in the mêlée head butted Anthony knocking out his two front teeth. Anthony’s favourite party trick is shocking people by quietly removing his front teeth whilst in conversation with people to see if they notice!

In 2004, Anthony went to train for three months with the late great Paul Darragh, riding Paul’s horses was a great honour for Anthony and the experience he gained whilst with Paul was invaluable.

Anthony met Billy Twomey at Dublin Horse Show when he was coming to the end of his training stint with Paul and Billy admired Anthony’s riding skills so much, he offered him a job riding at Pewitt Hall starting in the September of 2004.

From the moment Anthony arrived at Pewitt, he has never stopped learning everyday brings something new and the variety of rides means that life is never mundane.

The highlight of 2005 for Anthony was competing at the under 18’s European Championships at Schaffenhausen with Lottie. The team ended up in an unlucky fourth position but the experience was invaluable.

2006 started of in great style with Anthony competing on the Spanish Sunshine Tour at Vejer d La Fronteirra in Spain for seven weeks. Riding class horses meant that Anthony had a very successful show.

 

  

 Colum O Connell’s horse Jools jumped consistently well in the seven year old series, Jim Knox’s Senator W was third in the seven year old final and Balder for Edd Davies was the most consistent five year old on the tour.

Jools went on to be second in the highly acclaimed young horse class ‘Foxhunter Championship’ at the Horse of the Year Show before being sold on to be ridden by John Higgins successfully in Ireland.

Anthony was selected for the Young Rider European Championships in Athens with Winny Jackson where he won the farewell stakes but unfortunately claimed no medals.

Other highlights of 2006 include riding Killy Jones for Brian McIver to win the Towerlands Summer Grand Prix, second in the British Open Young Riders Championship at Birmingham NEC and selection to ride as an individual at the Dublin Horse Show which was a dream come true for Anthony.

 

 In 2007 riding Sue Davies’s Ballade, Anthony won a Newcomers’ second round and went on to be joint first in the final at the Horse of the Year Show at Birmingham NEC.

Anthony was selected for the Young Rider European Championships in Auvers (France) with Billy’s horse Ramiro and whilst individually he landed a Bronze Medal, he was clear in the team competition but  failed to secure a team medal.

Sue Davies’s Winny Jackson  won the Premier Show Grand Prix at Hand Equestrian Centre with Anthony on board.

2007 was rounded of with a second in the National Seven Year Old Final at the Scope Festival with Allegro, a horse owned in partnership by Billy and Dave Quigley.

In 2008 Anthony was selected to ride at the Young Rider European Championship in Prague with Edd Davie's Goldex. Whilst it was a great experience neither the team, or Anthony as an individual secured a medal.Anthony later went on to take the young  riders championship title at Arena UK Festival of jumping with Sue Davies's Whinny Jackson.

Anthony was selected to ride at the Northern Ireland International Horse Show, held at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast and had a great show, Edd Davies’s Goldex was second in two classes, Sue Davies’s Winny Jackson was also second in a class.

Anthony made his first Senior Nations Cup appearance at Dramen in Germany with Vince Connaughton’s Cavinem. Anthony’s clear in the first round and 4 faults in the second round was a fantastic debut result.

At Towerlands International show, Goldex was third in the Grand Prix and Je Taime Flamenco was placed everyday.

Billy had been unable to ride for most of the summer of 2008 due to a serious fall earlier in the season. Anthony undertook to keep all the top horses ticking over  whilst Billy was recuperating and back in the saddle in October. During this time Anthony competed at Lummen in Belgium winning a class with Sue Davies’s Je Taime Flamenco.

Anthony was leading rider at the Bolesworth Castle Show Jumping Classic Show and won the National Young Rider Championship at the Scope Festival of Show Jumping with Sue Davies’s Winny Jackson.

In 2009 Anthony gained the ride on Cruising’s Mickey Finn. The horse had previously been ridden by Anthony’s great friend Benny Kehulne, who sadly passed away. Harry Aird who owned Cruising’s Mickey Finn had asked Trevor Coyle if he could suggest a jockey for the horse after Benny’s death and with a mixture of sadness and Joy, Anthony ended up with the ride on the horse. Anthony praises the work Benny had done with the horse which gave him a great foundation to work on and allowed him to swiftly start winning with the horse at the highest levels.

 

 

Since taking over the ride on Cruising's Mickey Finn, Anthony has won numerous classes including such prestigious classes as Arena UK Premier Grand Prix, British Open Winter A and B Championships, Welsh Master Grand Prix and second in the Warrington International Trial.

Other notable wins in 2009 include Cavinem in the Gentleman’s Championship Qualifier at the Welsh Masters, Valletto JX in the Novice Championship qualifier for Hickstead.

‘I have always admired Billy’s methods,  training, philosophies and structured approach to  our sport. Being based here at Pewitt Hall means there is always an abundance of great horses to ride and Billy, Edd and Sue Davies have always ensured I have had a horse capable of being selected for any championships that have been coming up and fingers crossed I have been quite successful in achieving selection. The addition of Cruising’s Mickey Finn to my string has strengthened the team of horse available. Since arriving at Pewitt, Billy and the Davies family have between them provided me with great training, a home and great facilities at Pewitt Hall, right down to Sue Davies’s daughter Janette, ensuring I ate and had clean clothes when I first arrived after being spoiled by my mum for so many years!

I am very happy and settled in Cheshire.

My aims for this year would be to have a horse in the Newcomers’ and Foxhunter Championships at the Horse of the Year Show and to be selected for some shows internationally would be the icing on the cake.’
